Bio

I came to yoga by necessity, after developing a herniated disc and having health issues stemming from this issue I was introduced to a yoga therapist who showed me some simple postures and movements to do to relief my pain. Within one week I started seeing relief, within two weeks I was off of pain medication forever! Seeing how much yoga helped me I decided to get my basic yoga certification. Shortly after getting my basic yoga certification I knew I wanted more knowledge, that is when I pursued yoga therapy. Along my certification journey I had the pleasure of working with individuals with a variety of health issues ranging from MS to infertility. I saw amazing results when these folks discovered their true nature and how much there individual yoga practice improved their quality of life. I love what I do.

Nancy Uma completed her yoga training in 2004. She immediately began teaching yoga classes at the studio she created . Witnessing the wonderful and positive effects yoga had on people of all health, stature and age levels she decided to go on and learn more about helping others. In 2006-7 she successfully completed her Professional Yoga Therapy training through Integrative Yoga Therapy. During her training she had to complete numerous one on one yoga therapy sessions with clients that had health issues including but not limited to obesity, Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia and MS.

Nancy feels most comfortable helping students discover their true nature and develop their ability to have a meaningful yoga practice no matter what health issue or level of practice. She presently teaches one on one therapeutic classes, a variety of styles of group classes and health specific classes. Classes include large group, pool, semi-private, private and yoga workshops. Nancy continues to grow her knowledge base by attending yoga teacher training's and workshops throughout the year. These classes help to keep her current on the latest trends and advancements in yoga therapy and yoga. She is registered as a 500RYT with Yoga Alliance and has her certification as a PYT- Professional Yoga Therapist. In 2012 she received her E- RYT designation, Experienced registered Yoga teacher

In addition to her extensive yoga training, Nancy credits her ability to make anyone comfortable in their yoga practice to her Air Force Medical Technician training and years of traveling overseas. She resides in Central Virginia with her husband of 32 years, her two rescue cats. She has two adult children who live in Virginia and Texas. In addition to yoga Nancy also enjoys sailing, gardening and teaching the joy cooking!
