Yoga Therapy vs Yoga

You may know what yoga is but do you know what yoga therapy is? Yoga therapy takes all the principals of yoga and applies them as individual centered; molding the teaching to the needs of the individual. Yoga is more often seen in a class structure, content is pre-arranged and the individual molds himself to the form of yoga being taught. There is no "one-size fit's all" approach to helping a yoga therapy student. A yoga therapist has extensive training to help individuals manage diseases such as Parkinson's, MS, Fibromyalgia, heart disease and chronic pain, among others. The therapist can and often does work in conjunction with an individual’s allopathic caregiver.
The goal of a yoga therapist is to guide the individual, helping them find their natural healing abilities through a relationship of trust and experiential practice. Unlike participating in a yoga class which stands on it's own, someone deciding to work with a yoga therapist should be prepared to meet numerous times to allow the therapist and student to learn what works for there particular condition
